OVERCOMING OBSTACLES TO MEDITATION: OUR FAVORITE TIPS & TRICKS
We know that starting a regular meditation practice is easier said than done, so we decided to put together some of our favorite tricks for making meditation feel more natural — and even enjoyable! Especially when you find yourself...
GETTING DISTRACTED ~
Try doing some subtle stretching first — it can help to release any restless energy in the body! It can also be useful to engage the senses by lighting candles or incense, or to play some soothing music in the background. If you enjoy the things happening in the present moment, it's much easier to focus on it! We also recommend creating a special meditation space for yourself at home or visiting our studio sanctuary to help you get in the zone.
GETTING TIRED ~
Try sitting upright instead of laying down, whether you sit on a cushion or in a chair. Another trick is focusing on the inhale and lengthening it, paying attention to the vibrant feeling of new energy entering the body at the top of the breath. You can even keep the eyes slightly open with the eyelids soft, so that the small amount of light can help you say awake and aware.
GETTING BORED ~
Find a practice that you find pleasurable, attractive, appealing... that way it's not a chore to meditate but something that you actually find delight in! Some people love visualizations and working with their chakras because they love the colors and the creative element, while others love breath-based practices and the way it helps them get in touch with their body. Whatever your favorite flavor of meditation is... go for that first!
